Freddy Adu: "So You're Telling Me There's A Chance!"

 By Matt Carlson

What? I did not agree with the headline that was above Greg Seltzer’s article on
MLSsoccer.com reporting that Freddy Adu was on trial with FC Sion. The headline referred to Freddy Adu as a “journeyman.” My first reaction was, “Freddy Adu isn’t a journeyman. That’s going too far. He’s young and he’s talented. He’s not a journeyman. A ‘journeyman’ is guy who has played for awhile and bounced around some teams without ever really doing very much . . . oh.” Here are the cold, hard facts: since April 2007, Freddy Adu has gone through Real Salt Lake, Benfica, Monaco, Belenenses, Aris, and was recently on trial with FC Sion.

Donovan has offers from overseas

Donovan, who signed a new contract with MLS last year, told Reuters at Wednesday night's All-Star game that he is considering offers from overseas. The 28-year-old has attracted interest during what has arguably been the most successful year of his professional career. Rumors have linked Donovan from a range of clubs from England to Italy.

Adu on trial with Sion

While Aris departed for a Europa League qualifier on Tuesday, Adu was busy trialing for Swiss club FC Sion. The club, which finished seventh in the 10-team Swiss League last season, is looking to land Adu on loan for the entire upcoming season. Having been deemed surplus to requirements by Aris manager Hector Cuper earlier this summer, Adu would join his fifth European club since moving across the pond in 2007 should he sign with Sion.

Dempsey and Johnson Face Uncertainty at Fulham for Different Reasons

By Matt Carlson

It is the 82nd minute of the match. Clint Dempsey, just off the bench, controls a tough ball at the top of the box. He takes a touch away from goal toward the sideline. Running parallel to the goal, he twists and lofts a shot back across the box into the top far corner of the goal. Craven Cottage erupts as Fulham defeats Italian giant Juventus and advances to the Europa League quarterfinals.

Since he scored his first goal for Fulham in 2007 against Liverpool to help stave off
relegation, Clint Dempsey has had a knack for scoring important goals for Fulham.
Dempsey has scored 25 times in all competitions since his arrival, the most of any
Fulham player during that span. Additionally, he has created chances for others
and is often at the heart of Fulham’s most dangerous attacks. A player with this
resume should be going into this season as a fixture at the club with his starting spot guaranteed. Instead, it appears to me, that Dempsey is starting this season with some big questions concerning his future at Fulham.

Ferguson backs Bradley for Fulham job

Man Utd. manager says US boss will "do well in England"

Why it’s time for Bob Bradley to go

I will be featuring several writers on the blog who will be writing on various YA and USMNT topics. Here is Phillip's first article. Please feel free to leave your thoughts in the comments.

By Phillip Suitts

First, let me start this off by saying that I have been a supporter of Bradley throughout his four year-tenure as the head coach of the US national team. I have defended many of his decisions against the newcomers who’ve called for Klinsmann to replace him. I’ve defended Bradley against the claims of nepotism by uninformed fans. I think Bradley hasn’t got enough credit for the job he did with the US national team these past four years, and that he has more tactical knowledge and awareness than most US fans would give him credit for (Otto Hitzfeld confirmed that when he acknowledged after Switzerland’s 1-0 win over Spain that he copied Bradley’s tactics). However, with all that said, I believe it’s time for the US to part ways with Bradley.

Clark to turn down MNT call up vs Brazil

Visibly relaxed Clark started in on practice with Eintracht on Tuesday. The Midfield fighter had three weeks of vacation to get over his mistakes at the WC.
As a reminder: He started in the first game against England. Then he was on the bench. In the round of 16 against Ghana, the mistake climax: Before Ghana's first goal, Clark lost the ball. The result: Bradley took him out after 30 minutes...
Clark: "I am happy to be in Frankfurt. I am comfortable with the team and am ready to go."
And he has to be. At his position in defensive midfield, there is a lot of competition. Pirim Schwegler and Alexander Meier are more than likely the starters. It will be difficult to surpass them. But those who know the US-Rambo, knows that he will give it his all.
Clark: "We have a very good and balanced roster. I came to Eintracht to help the team."
And how hard Clark is going to work for his chance is evident: On August 10 the new stadium in New York will be opened in front of 90,000 fans when the USA takes on Brazil. However, Clark has already turned down the opportunity to play in order to take part in training camp in Kärnten (Austria). "For me, every training session is critical."
He is contract is for three years. Clark has rented a house in Niderrad for him and his family.
He promises: "I will learn a lot here. Frankfurt hasn't seen the real Clark yet."

SoccerPro - Review

Our good friends at SoccerPro sent me a Nike USMNT Jacket to review. This thing is a beast. It is very smooth and is as comfortable as you can get. It's a little hot for a jacket at this point, but you can be assured that this jacket will come out once the summer heat recedes. SoccerPro is still working on getting more and more items, but they have a much better selection than they used to and are continuing to improve. They also have a nice deal to get free shipping on orders over $50. You can get pretty much any World Cup jersey here and in case you didn't get one in time for the World Cup, you can make sure to get your USA World Cup Jerseys in time for the Brazil fixture.

Movsisyan dreaming of USMNT

With things going so well, the Azerbaijan-born Armenian is staying positive over his quest to one day join the US National Team and play for America at a World Cup. Transferring to play in Denmark may slow down the citizenship process he's begun a bit, but once again, Movsisyan's got his eyes fixed on the prize. "I'm still of the same mindset," he stated. "Becoming a citizen could take a while or it could be a quick process. There's people working on it right now. It's not going to be as fast as it would have been there, but there's always ways to expedite it."
*Goals in SAS Liga and Europa League have Yura dreaming of USMNT

Now, I have pretty much ignored Movsisyan on this blog. First, I didn't know that he really wanted to play for the states and that it wasn't worth the effort of posting highlights of him due to the fact that there was no realistic chance for him to play for the full team. I used to think the same about Gomez, so lesson learned. So I will start to follow Yura on the blog now. I have some of his most recent goals and some highlight videos after the jump. Enjoy!
