U.S. Soccer and Bob Bradley Agree to Contract Extension

The US Soccer Federation announced Tuesday that it has agreed to a contract extension with head coach Bob Bradley through 2014, ending months of speculation after Bradley led the team to the Round of 16 of the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. Bradley – who was rumored to be linked with openings at English sides Fulham and Aston Villa after the Americans’ loss to Ghana in the Round of 16 – has compiled a record of 38-20-8 in four years since taking over for former national-team boss Bruce Arena.

DaMarcus Beasley Signs With Hannover

Lo único que sabemos es que no volveremos a ver a Beasley con la camiseta de Rangers.

Free agent U.S. winger DaMarcus Beasley will join Bundesliga side Hannover 96 on a two-year deal, pending the results of a Monday medical exam, MLSsoccer.com has learned. The 28-year-old speedster, who ran out of contract after three seasons with Scottish champs Rangers, will be teaming up once again with Reds captain and USMNT teammate Steve Cherundolo. The Bundesliga becomes the fifth league of play for the Indiana native, who has also previously suited up for the Chicago Fire, PSV Eindhoven and Manchester City.

Who's next to move to Europe?

Who do you think will be the next MLSers to move to Europe besides Landon Donovan? Maybe Omar Gonzalez? Tim Ream? -- David Vitek, Raleigh, N.C.

Actually, David, I think there are a number of players more likely to leave than Donovan at this juncture. Here's why: For Donovan and his freshly upped salary, money might no longer be an incentive to move, because the $2.1 million (plus tips) he is now making isn't very far from what he could command in Europe. His move to Everton was facilitated by his impending divorce. It appears that he's trying to get back together with his ex, so he might want to be in the area. And Donovan feels that he has proved himself in Europe, however brief his excursion there was.

So his urge to go, by those three measures, has to be considerably less pressing than it would have been a year or so ago. There are, however, a number of players who look like good bets to go. Houston's Geoff Cameron makes the league's minimum wage in spite of sitting comfortably in the 90th percentile of quality among players. Cameron appears to be resisting a new contract to follow the likes of former Dynamo players Stuart Holden and Ricardo Clark to Europe via free agency. Danny Mwanga, Philadelphia's rookie standout, told me minutes after being drafted first overall in January that he couldn't wait to start playing in France, and that he had to be persuaded to use MLS as a springboard in favor of going right out of college. Look for him to bolt when he gets the chance. New York's Macoumba Kandji, meanwhile, also has discovered his name on a few European wish lists. Although he has yet to light up the league here, his size could make him a good fit in, say, a Championship-type team in England.

Several others look to have slowly outgrown the league and may be ready to take a step up. Seattle's Fredy Montero, for example, or New England's Shalrie Joseph. D.C. United's preposterously gifted Andy Najar might not be far behind them. As for Ream and Gonzalez, both lack a good bit of polish. Although that may not stop them -- others have preferred getting to know European pine over MLS grass before -- they're certainly not the most Europe-ready players in the league. Ream is an able distributor but needs to work on his defending, while Gonzalez, a better pure defender, has looked a bit shaky as often as he has solid.

Altidore with Villareal

United’s Conor Shanosky, New York Red Bulls Juan Agudelo and the Houston Dynamo’s Francisco Navas Cobo are the others who moved from U.S. Soccer’s Development Academy into MLS.

Bradley confirms interest in Aston Villa job

*Listen to the podcast interview with Bob Bradley

United States coach Bob Bradley says he is keen to hold talks with Aston Villa owner Randy Lerner about being their next boss following Martin O'Neill's exit earlier this month. Bob Bradley was also linked with Fulham. Bradley, who led the USA to the last 16 of the World Cup, has had no formal talks with Villa's American owner but his representatives have made contact with the club.

"I think Aston Villa is a massive club with great history and a great following and those type of opportunities would of course be of interest," Bradley told BBC Radio Five Live. "I would certainly be honoured to have that conversation but I'm impressed with the way things have been handled so far and we'll see what the future holds." Villa play Newcastle at St James' Park on Sunday afternoon bidding for their second win of the Premier League season with caretaker manager Kevin MacDonald in charge. But while Bradley, 52, has a contract with the United States which runs until the end of the year, he is ambitious to manage in Europe. He said: "I've always been excited about being a manager in Europe but at the same time I'm proud of the work we've done with the US team over the last four years. It is important to consider that as a challenge as well. So we'll see what happens.

"There have been discussions with some of my representatives to at least find out the situation but Aston Villa seem to have taken a good stance where they have been patient. "They have a very good man in Kevin MacDonald who is highly respected in the club so I think on the one hand they are probably putting a list together and on the other making sure Kevin has the time to consider his future as well. It has been handled very well. "I had some people do some checking just to find out where things stood."

Uefa may act over Brad Guzan's Vienna barrage

The Aston Villa reserve goalkeeper had lighters, coins and drinks hurled at him during the first leg of his side's 1-1 Europa League qualifier in Austria. Meanwhile, the club has apologised to Villa's Andreas Weimann after fans abused him as he was stretchered off. The club said the fans' behaviour was "disgusting, unfair and unacceptable". In a statement, the club added: "SK Rapid would like to officially offer this statement as a means of apology to Andreas Weimann, his family and to the club Aston Villa." Villa keeper Guzan said several of the items thrown at him had hit. He said: "It's obviously not something anybody should have to cope with, and it's not something you like to see."

At one point, the American, who deputises for veteran first-choice keeper Brad Friedel during cup competitions, picked up one of the objects and handed it to Luxembourg referee Alain Hamer, who in turn passed it on to the fourth official. Guzan, though, was not overly perturbed by the barrage after suffering similar treatment on international duty. "It's part of the game, part of the environment," added the 25-year-old, who made three superb saves to deny Vienna a victory after Atdhe Nuhiu had netted in reply to Barry Bannan's opener for the visitors.

"It's a situation when you go into a hostile environment you know the fans aren't going to be too kind to you and you try to get on with it. "Playing with the national team in central America and some of those countries, I've seen it before. "As to whether Uefa do anything, that's not for me to decide."
